One of our greatest leaders at GCS went to be with the Lord
Dear Gaston Christian friends and family,
It is with great sadness that I share with you the death of one of our greatest leaders at Gaston Christian School. Mrs. Opal Parks went to be with the Lord over the weekend. From the earliest stages, Opal was instrumental in steering Gaston Christian as a board member and then Head of School for over 19 years. She was always gracious in her speech but also resolved to do the right thing at all times. Her character and leadership have led the school to annually award The Opal Parks Award to a senior young lady who exemplifies Christian character, servanthood, and scholarship. In our Early Childhood wing, we also have a sign that recognizes her.
Attached, please see the obituary. She loved the school and requested that memorial gifts be made to the school or Parkwood Baptist church, where she was a member for many decades.
II Corinthians 5:8 says, “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” NKJV. Today we can rejoice that Opal Parks is now and forever going to be spending her life ever after in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Please join me in prayer for the Parks family as they mourn the loss of this godly lady.
