“When we were looking at a move to Gaston County, we knew Christian education was essential for our children. Quality education must do more than sharpen the mind; it must also shape the heart. Our calling as parents is to raise our children in the truth of the gospel of Jesus — and Gaston Christian partners with us in providing this for our children. We also loved that GCS had a robust fine arts and athletic program. It is very rare to find a school with all of the elements that GCS provides at an affordable price point, and we couldn’t be happier to be a part of this community.”

-L. Rice, GCS Parent

Things To Do

As a growing city, Gastonia offers exciting recreational activities for families, including the arts, culture, educational, and even spiritual events. Some unique attractions are the Billy Graham Library, local arts performances, and the Crowders Ridge Spiritual Emphasis retreat. Students at GCS who take Spanish classes also immerse themselves in culture by dining out in local Spanish and Mexican restaurants.

If you’ve recently relocated and are looking for things to do in Gaston County, places that our families have enjoyed include:

  • Carolina Speedway
  • Schiele Museum
  • Lake Wylie
  • Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens
  • Whitewater Center

During weekends or after school, students and their families unwind by exploring attractions such as the Martha Rivers Park, Goat Island, or indulging in a treat at Tony’s Ice Cream. In between drop-offs and pick-ups, many GCS parents head to nearby shopping centers for groceries, a coffee break, or enjoy midday treats while waiting for their children.

“I have lived in Gastonia for 29 years. I have worked at GCS since 2017. I live in the Modena neighborhood. It takes me in the morning usually, without traffic, 9 minutes to commute to work. With traffic, it usually takes me about 15 minutes. The quickest route for me is I-85 North from exit 19 to the Lowell/McAdenville exit. If I know there is a lot of traffic on I-85 North; I will take the back roads through Lowell. I love that even with traffic, it usually doesn’t take me more than 15 minutes to get to work. One of the things I love about GCS is that there is a lot more diversity than there was 4-5 years ago. I love seeing all the different types of families on our campus.”

-A. Lowrimore, GCS Staff
