Observing Veterans Day
Dear Gaston Christian families and friends,
Many of you probably know that next Wednesday, November 11, is Veterans Day. This is a time to celebrate and thank the many Americans that have served in the armed forces of our nation.
On December 1, 1975, I stood on the tarmac of Lackland Air Force Base; it was my first day as a member of the United States Air Force. Cold, scared, and alone, I embarked on six weeks of physical, mental, and personal training. My flight, made up of about 50 young men, was from all walks of life. We were racially, geographically, economically, and religiously quite a diverse group. But over the next six weeks, we gelled into a unit of men that put the needs of the group ahead of our personal interests. It was a transformative time in my life. While I did not serve in harm’s way, I fully appreciate the dedication and sacrifice that all veterans make to serve our great country.
With Veterans Day being on a Wednesday this year, we felt it best to take Monday, November 9 off to allow a three day weekend. However, if any school family wants to take Wednesday off to honor Veterans Day, please know that we fully support you and this is an excused absence.
To all my fellow veterans associated with Gaston Christian School, thank you for your service to our country. “May the Lord bless you and keep you and cause His face to shine upon you and give you peace.” Numbers 6
In His service,
Dr. Marc Stout
