Camp Counselor
Location: Gaston Christian School
Reports To: Lead Camp Counselors and Camp Eagle Director, respectively
Status: Non-Exempt, Paid monthly
Position Summary:
A Camp Counselor supports Lead Camp Counselors, camp activities and supervising campers. He/she is responsible for knowing the whereabouts of each camper in his/her charge at all times during duty hours.
Basic Requirements:
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Possesses good leadership abilities and responsibility skills.
- Demonstrates appropriate behavior at all times.
- Patient, enthusiastic, self-controlled and dependable.
- Has the ability to work with others and follow directions.
- Preference for CPR and First Aid Certified.
Spiritual Requirements:
- Seek to demonstrate in speech, actions, and attitude a consistent walk with Jesus Christ as outlined in the GCS Statement of Faith.
- Be available always to be used by the Holy Spirit for the spiritual encouragement of students or fellow counselors.
- Share their faith with campers.
- Read and study the Bible on a personal basis throughout the year.
- Re faithfully involved in a local church.
Professional Requirements:
- Observes and promotes all rules and regulations established for Camp Eagle staff and campers.
- Assists Lead Camp Counselors with camp activities.
- Escorts the campers to mealtime, classes, recreation, and participates in their supervision.
- Attends all camp activities.
- Conducts morning roll.
- Maintains attendance count at all camp activities.
- Reports any rule violation by campers to the Lead Camp Counselor or Camp Director.
- Reports any observed difficulties related to illness and/or injury of campers immediately to the Lead Camp Counselor.
- Works cooperatively with fellow Camp Counselors in the completion of assigned duties.
- Seeks assistance or advice from the Lead Camp Counselor or Camp Director when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements for the Job of Camp Counselor:
- Must be able to stand, walk, talk and hear for 6-8 hours per day. One must use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and/or arms for 2.5-6 hours per day. Must be able to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch and smell for less than 2.5 hours per day.
- Must be able lift 10 lbs. between 2.5-6 hours per day and occasionally lift or push with a cart books or boxes of books that weigh between 10–25 lbs.
- One’s vision should include close, distant, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must have stamina to work/counsel students up to 8 hours per day, with few breaks.
