More than $1,870,000 Raised in Campaign to Date
GASTONIA, NC – Gaston Christian School launched a capital campaign in August of 2021 to construct a new Student Life Center with a goal of raising $2,050,000. This new facility – equipped with a dining hall/food court –will serve as a gathering place for both parents and students. A hub of activity, the Student Life Center will include food stations for vendors, indoor and outdoor seating with tables, large screen TVs, music, and restroom facilities. It will also open up space for Bible studies and prayer groups within a private, but accessible area.
The Board of Trustees authorized plans to be drawn and has already approved proceeding with construction. The school expects to break ground next month, with a goal to have the new facility fully functional for the return to school in August 2023.
“Our Student Life Center will further enhance our ability to fulfill our mission,” says Dr. Marc Stout, head of school. “What a blessing it will be to know that we are being used to enrich the spiritual lives of not only our students and parents, but the whole community. We seek to be a light upon a hill; may God allow us to use everything we have to honor and glorify Him.”
School leadership has also set a vision goal of $3.3 million. These additional funds will give Gaston Christian School the ability to enhance STEAM/technology initiatives, grounds improvements, paved parking lots and debt reduction.
“My wife and I have financially supported GCS for the past 20 years,” says Jim Lanier, campaign co-chair. “We will have grandchildren attending one day, and we want to ensure the school continues on a path to excellence. GCS offers one of the best education’s around.”
To date, more than $1,870,000 – totally 91% of the campaign goal – has been gifted or pledged to the campaign, titled Transforming Lives for God’s Glory. The school family celebrated this milestone in a public announcement event on April 28th at the school. Campaign Co-Chairs Jesse Bachman and Jim Lanier presented a check to Gaston Christian School board members in the amount of $1,870,000
“Support for the campaign has been significant, and we are so thankful for the commitments and pledges thus far,” commented Steve Cochran, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. “We will continue to seek support for the building project until we reach our goal.”
