Dear Gaston Christian Community

Jun 18, 2020

Dear Gaston Christian Community,

Over the past several weeks we have witnessed the tragic killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor.  These are shameful acts of racial prejudice and my hope and prayer is that the perpetrators of these acts will be convicted of the most serious charges for their murderous acts.

My heart is very heavy for the families that have lost loved ones.  I remember well ten years ago burying our oldest son, Micah, who died after a two year fight with cancer.  No parent should ever have to bury their children.  These cases are even worse in that their children didn’t just die, they were murdered.

Gaston Christian School seeks to be a safe place for all children, parents and employees.  It is extremely important that all of our minority families feel that safety and support at this time.  We are all brothers and sisters in Christ.  Racism is unacceptable at Gaston Christian School.  In Galatians 2:28 the Apostle Paul says, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”  Our first and foremost identity is in Christ Jesus.

We all have different backgrounds.  We come from different parts of the United States, we have many that have moved here from other countries, and we have around 20 International students that come here from China.  Our diversity makes us stronger as a school.  We also have many different gifts.

I Corinthians 12:4 says, “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.  There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.  There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.”  My prayer is that we celebrate the unique and special gifts that God has given each and every student at Gaston Christian School.  We need to be careful to affirm our differences as gifts from God.

With our new Director of Diversity taking the lead, we hope, as a school, to more effectively reach out to current families and listen to their comments, address their concerns and engage in a respectful discourse that will make Gaston Christian an even better reflection of the body of Christ.

Please join me in prayer that we will be effective in broadening our ministry, as it is stated in II Corinthians 2:15, “For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.”

To God be the glory,

Dr. Marc Stout
