Dear Gaston Christian family,

As you know we have been working feverishly to complete our new Student Life Center before our first day of school.  And while we have made great strides, we came up just a bit short.  Last Friday we received our Temporary Certificate of Occupancy.  This has allowed our chef and team of 12 to move in and start using our facilities.  Historically, we’ve always started lunches after Labor Day, but I am happy to announce that we plan to begin our lunches on Monday, August 14.  We will not be serving lunch our first full day of school on Friday, August 11, out of an abundance of caution.  We missed it by one day.  That is not due to any particular subcontractor’s negligence, but more a recognition that building a facility that will feed over 1200 people every day is daunting.  I would like to commend our builder Custom Building Systems for a job well done, I would gladly recommend them for a project of similar size.  Our subcontractors: Patterson Electric, T. Smith Plumbing, GSM (who did our HVAC and roof systems), and Denver Equipment are truly appreciated for their commitment to our project.  Also, in our Middle/High School lunch area one of our Gaston Christian families, BTJ Cabinets, did a marvelous job in providing our beautiful tabletops. 

Because we will not be able to provide lunch for your child on Friday, each student’s account will receive a credit for the missed day on your September billing.

Over the past year, there have been some security concerns related to food delivery drivers on campus. The reason for this is that some drivers were taking photos on campus and driving erratically, which is considered a security risk. As a result, GCS has implemented a new policy that no food delivery services are allowed on campus. While this may be inconvenient for some, it is an important measure to ensure the safety and security of everyone on campus. We must prioritize the safety of our students, staff, and faculty. Also with the conversion of the Elementary, Middle and High School lunchrooms (multipurpose rooms) into our new STEAM labs, the vending machines have been removed. 

As we have been laser-focused on getting our lunch facilities ready to serve our students, staff and faculty, we are going to delay our opening of the coffee bar a few days as well.  We will let you know when we will open our outstanding coffee and breakfast bar.  In the future, we will open this area for Gaston Christian friends and family from 6:30-10:30.  This will allow students, teachers and parents an opportunity to fellowship over a cup of coffee, a smoothie, a frappuccino, a latte, a scone, a chicken biscuit, or bacon, egg and cheese biscuit. All purchases will be either debit, credit or Apple Pay, we will not be accepting cash in the morning at the coffee bar.  In the very near future, you will be able to order and pay online and your order will be ready for you when you arrive.  My hope and prayer is that this new space on our campus will be a place for friends to gather and enjoy time together.
