2023 GCS School-wide Spelling Bee
GCS School-wide Spelling Bee Held January 20, 2023
Selected fourth through eighth-grade students sat nervously on their folding chairs in the Owens Auditorium on Friday, January 20. They had won the right to be there, but most were on the edge of their seats anticipating what was to come. Spectators quietly entered the auditorium and took their seats. Dr. Jonathan Huitt greeted the crowd and then it began: the 2023 GCS School-wide Spelling Bee. One-by-one the students valiantly left their chairs to meet their chosen words. After seventeen rounds eighth-grader, Rowan Haston claimed the title of GCS Spelling Bee Champion. She will compete against other Independent/Private school champions online on February 15th. Haston will represent GCS at the Gaston County Spelling Bee. The runner-up was Micah Lynn. Congratulations to both of these students and the many other classroom spelling bee winners. A special thanks to Mrs. Brack who called words for the spelling bee, and Mrs. Turnpin and Mrs. Bauchman who served as judges.
