As Gaston Christian School grows in Cleveland County and with the purchase of the Kings Mountain Central School building to become our East Cleveland Campus, we anticipate the need for faculty and staff in multiple areas.
Position: School Nurse
Location: Gaston Christian School – East Cleveland Campus
Reports To: Head School Nurse and EC/ES Principals/Upper School Head
Status: hourly
Basic Requirements:
- Registered nursing degree
- Good organizational skills
- Two (2) years experience in school setting (preferred)
Spiritual Requirements:
- Seek to demonstrate in speech, actions, and attitude a consistent walk with Jesus Christ as outlined in the GCS Statement of Faith.
- Be available always to be used by the Holy Spirit for the spiritual encouragement of students or fellow teachers.
- Share the Christian faith with students.
- Read and study the Bible on a personal basis throughout the year.
- Be on time for and attend faculty devotions and chapels as scheduled.
- Be faithfully involved in a local church.
Professional Requirements:
- Provide the school with written health policies including disease-control measures, such as quarantine, vaccination and inoculation. These policies incorporate public health department rules or state regulations.
- Report all serious accidents and maintain files with school principals. Inform the Head of School of incidents to check for liability and to make appropriate decisions to prevent similar accidents in the future.
- Keep accurate and up-to-date medical records on all students.
- Implement a systematic program of exams and screenings (hearing/vision/other).
- Establish and maintain an effective program to handle medical emergencies.
- Maintain clinic areas (one in EC/ES Bldg. and one in MS/HS Bldg.) where a student can lie down, in line with the emergency procedure guide.
- Maintain basic supplies (over-the-counter, prescription medications, etc) in locked cabinets in all school office areas.
- Review logs kept by office personnel regarding injuries and illnesses.
- Maintain state and school compliance by revisions to the Medication/Permission policy for the administering of pain relief.
- Supervise compliance by students and parents with immunization and communicable disease laws, regulations, and policies of the state and school district.
- Interpret school health legal provisions to school administrators.
- Conduct in-service education and certifications regarding health issues and coordinate training of staff in CPR, First Aid, AED, infectious disease, and other areas as approved.
- Coordinate nursing oversight with the part-time nurse who provides GCS nursing needs on other days.
- Communicate with the Head of School any health-related matter that is critical.
- Assist the Athletic Director regarding inventory of and ordering medical supplies as well as establishing in-service opportunities for the coaches (CPR, First Aid, AED, etc.)
- Other nursing-related duties as assigned by school principals or by the Head of School.
