A note from Dr. Marc Stout

Jun 10, 2020

The murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer was one of the most sickening things I have seen in a long time, if not ever.  While handcuffed with his face to the ground, the police officer suffocated Mr. Floyd in a disgraceful fashion.  My hope for Mr. Floyd’s family is that justice moves quickly to convict those involved of murder charges. Police officers have a great deal of authority and must be held accountable for their actions.  I am so thankful for our local police officers, their leadership, and the confidence that they will act with integrity.

Gaston Christian School is committed to honoring the Lord in all that we do. We are actively and earnestly seeking to build an authentic community centered on Christ that draws us together while living in a broken world.  Part of that commitment is teaching our students to love and respect one another.  Last September we conducted a Strategic Planning Retreat for the school.  One of our initiatives involved increasing diversity within our faculty and our student body.

In fact, over the winter we interviewed candidates for our new Director of Diversity and Inclusion position at Gaston Christian School.

With coronavirus bringing many things to a standstill, we were not able to make our final appointment at that time.

However, I am very excited to announce that Mr. Patrick Lester has accepted this position and will begin his new assignment on July 13.  Patrick graduated from Belmont Abbey with a degree in education and has most recently been a teacher and coach at United Faith Christian Academy in Charlotte.

Patrick and his wife, Desenia, and their nine-month-old daughter Morea live in Gastonia and attend Elevation Church.

Over the next several months Patrick will be meeting with current students and families, introducing our school to many others in our community, and engaging with colleges and universities to welcome teacher candidates to our campus.  Please join me in welcoming  Mr. Lester to the GCS family.  He can be reached at plester@gastonchristian.org.

God’s Word instructs us in Matthew 22:37-39: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the great and foremost commandment.  The second is like it:  You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”  It is imperative as a Christian school that we love God first. God, give us wisdom to do that.
