Middle School Weights and Measures

Middle School Weights and Measures

Do you know what has the mass of 1 gram?  The sixth-grade science classes could answer that question!  Working with the triple beam balances, the students determined items that had a mass of one gram, 15 to 25 grams, and 80 to 120 grams.

Nine blocks with the same dimensions labeled A through I: could you place them in order from the least dense to the densest?  Eighth-grade science students certainly tried!  Using the formula D=m/v, the students determined the mass and volume of the nine blocks and calculated the different densities.

Video Production Trip to WBTV

On Tuesday, September 18th, students enrolled in video production, an elective course focused in the field of technology, visited WBTV, one of Charlotte’s major television broadcasting stations. Students were given a tour demonstrating how day to day production works at the news station. The tour exhibited the following areas of the facilities: the master control room where all of the video transitions are created for live tv, the production room where producers collect content for broadcast, the live studios where the anchors/talent broadcast from, the weather station area, and all of their syndicated radio stations. Students were also given the opportunity to try out the WBTV green screen and show off their meteorology skills by giving a weather report. A few of the directors at WBTV spoke to the students about their responsibilities and how students who are interested in the broadcasting field can take on an internship role at WBTV. On top of all that, students made it on Facebook Live during a popular show called The Morning Break.

International students go to Billy Graham Library

International students go to Billy Graham Library

The International Bible class is for first-year International students.  Each year this class starts the school year with a visit to the Billy Graham Library.  They are especially interested in the fact that Ruth Bell Graham, Billy’s wife of many years, was born in China to medical missionaries, Dr. and Mrs. Nelson Bell, and that there is a special room in the Library dedicated to Ruth’s years as a child in China.  The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association continues to be actively involved in churches in many provinces in China.

There were many opportunities to reflect on the life of Billy Graham and the wonderful ministry he had.  With his passing, a focus of knowing that his faith has now been made sight was quite evident.  Many lives have been touched by his ministry, which he referred to as the Lord’s ministry.
